This is perhaps the Union Medal that has appeared on the Liverpool site for GBP 795.

Out of interest how is it known they are brothers? Gysbert was born 1841 and Andries 1868 - not sure its physically possible ... (but that's out of the scope of this forum) .. maybe half brothers with same dad - even then .. ?

Jon,

I think Andries was born earlier than 1868.

Andries Stockenström (22 April 1844 Graaff-Reinet - 22 March 1880 Swellendam), second son of Sir Andries Stockenström (1st Baronet). From : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andries_Stockenstr%C3%B6m_(judge)

Gysbert was the first son.

Hi David that's his Dad - it's says second son -he did not succeed the baronetcy. Gysbert did as eldest. So they were uncle/nephew.

This from the bio's produced at time of the Union.

Jon,

Gysbert's father was also called Andries, His dates seem to be 1792-1864.

Gysbert became 2nd baronet in 1864, Gysbert had no issue so the 3rd baronet, who was also called Andries (1868-1922) was the 3rd baronet between 1912 and 1922.

The 3rd baronet was Gysbert's nephew, the only son of Andries.

The 3rd baronet had the good sense to call his only son Anders, after his ggf.
