I have acquired a QSA to the above chap who seems to have died during the Defence of Ladysmith. The clasps are Elandslaagte and DoL.

I don't have access to the medal rolls and would thus appreciate confirmation of his clasps and the fact that, because he died in early 1900, he wasn't eligible for any date clasps.

Regards

Rory

The medal roll shows both clasps and remarks "deceased". The NFF casualty roll shows "died dysentry, Ladysmith 1.4.00".

Gentlemen,
Has this medal not been discussed on here before? WO100/174 is very clear with the medal and the first two clasps only shown on page 56, this particular recipient in certainly not shown in the battalions supplementary roll in the same volume, I assume the rivets between the Defence and 01 are unofficial.

Dear Frank

Where did you get the idea from that the medal came with a 01 clasp??

The medal, which is correctly named (see attached photos) comes with the Elandslaagte and Defence of Ladysmith clasps.

As to being discussed before - it's unlikely as the chap had bought it on auction a number of years ago and hasn't hauled it out of the cupboard since.

Regards

Rory

Sorry Rory,
I'm thinking of another similar medal that had the date clasps added for some reason, no, this medal has certainly not been discussed on here, I misread your original post.
