Thank you for showing the naming. Fortunately, the naming on the medal in my collection is similar, so I will not have to burden myself with another worry!

I can hardly curb my impatience!

My Murray's Horse should be here any day now - it's being brought "home" by a friend in Australia's wife. Going purely on the photos provided on ebay on which I based my decision to buy, the naming looks exactly the same which is a relief.

The Murray's Horse QSA to B Varty has at last arrived back in the land of its origin after a lengthy sojourn down under :)

Named to B Varty researching this one was always going to be challenging but, thanks in the main to David B's list of D Squadron men earlier in this thread and a bit of sleuthing with the Varty family, I have been able to determine that the Boyd Varty to whom the medal was issued was in fact Thomas Boyd Varty, one of the many sons of the patriarch by the same name.

More about the chap anon but for now I am very happy that the medal and the naming all check out.

I've certainly never seen a suspect medal to Murray's Horse, the naming on all those that I have seen has always been very consistent and much the same, they are actually quite scarce things to find these days so look after it.

Greetings, Having just joined, I have found that there is a Spelling Error on the Above Entry which should read -

Goodwill L P instead of Gordnill L P

Luke Plummer of Pietermaritzburg is my Great Grandfather.

My Info reads:
Served in Natal Carbineers in Siege of Lady- smith, Natal Field Artillery, and now in Umvoti Mounted Rifles. Saved 3 lives from drowning in

His Son also served:
Goodwill H P Trooper Natal 1906 (1)

the Natal Carbineers who served during the siege of Ladysmith:

That's interesting Clive,

If you have his medal (L.P.'s) have a look at the rim and let us know what regiment appears there.

From the service you speak of none of it refers to Murray's Horse/Scouts - could be interesting.

Rory
