Hi

A previously unknown tribute medal was sold in Cape Town today as follows:

Inscribed 'H Coy 5th Vol Battn Deeside' with the Gordon Highlanders Coat of Arms and 'Presented to J Hay by Volunteers and Friends. In District 1901' to the reverse, with South Africa 1900-01 clasp

Lance corporal John Hay was born approximately 1873 in Cromer, Tarland. Trained as a watchmaker he enlisted on the 18th January 1900 and was discharged on the 30th January 1901 with the disembodiment of the unit.
