Have used this site on and off for a while and found some interesting family info. I was wondering if there was a list of names I could search? I have info on my great grandfather Wilfred Charles Turner of the E Province Horse and also on the other side of my family tree my great grandmother’s brother Charles Phillip Lawrence Flood who was in 4 different regiments (eg Natal Field Artillery, Commander in Chiefs Bodyguard etc)

I’m wondering if any of Charles Flood’s brothers fought too. They were around a similar age and their names were William Flood and John Joseph Flood. Any info much appreciated

Is it possible for you to provide a few clues to where the Flood family were born and resided?
The more information you can share with the forum, may help you in your quest.

Military paperwork can be found on Find My Past for 3619 John Joseph Flood of the Royal Irish Rifles. When he attested in late September 1892 he gave his age as 18 years 2 months, place of birth St Andrew's parish in Dublin and his next of kin his brother William. At the start of the ABW he was stationed in India but was posted to South Africa in February 1902. RIR medal rolls show he was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with 3 clasps - Orange Free State, Transvaal & South Africa 1902.

Hi Dave

I found info on John Joseph Flood, he was a Lt with Kitchener’s Fighting Scouts. Couldn’t see his service number though

William Flood was born 1877 in Maryborough, Ireland. He and his family moved to Durban, South Africa in 1879

Many thanks for the help

Wow thanks but now I’m confused. I searched on this ABW site and John Joseph Flood isn’t listed with a service number but is shown as a Lt with Kitchener’s Fighting Scouts. Could there be 2 John Joseph Flood’s? Both John and William were born in Maryborough, Ireland, William in 1887 and John Joseph in 1875

I think there are 2 different J J Floods in my opinion.
The Irish Rifles Flood only served in South Africa for 210 days, all in 1902.

Your mentioned J J Flood who served as a Lieutenant ( No number for this rank) in the 1st and 2nd Kitcheners Fighting Scouts was also a busy chap. Before the KFS he was serving in the Natal Mounted Rifles as a Corporal ( Number 269) alongside his brother William a Private (Number 220)

Dave....

PS. Both J J and William were engaged in the Defence of Ladysmith.
Also, William served with his brother Charles whilst serving in the Natal Volunteer Composite Regiment ( Regimental number 434 )
