John Ernest Middlebrook was probably the most prolific of the English war photographers that covered the Natal Campaign. Below are the titles of roughly 200 of the 760 views that could be purchased at his Durban studio during and after the ABW. Although most of these were Middlebrook’s own work, about 10 percent were reprints of images captured by Boer photographers such as van Hoepen and van Nes (c. Q.560 - Q.660).
If anyone has details of photographs I have not listed, let me know and I will add them to the database.
Middlebrook gave each of his images a unique number, those relating to the war having the prefix "Q".
