David has very kindly allowed me to post this request on the ABW forum.

From the 24th to 27th September I am bicycling 220 miles from the home of the Guards, Wellington Barracks in London, to the Waterloo battlefield in Belgium in order to raise money for The Colonel's Fund Grenadier Guards. It was at a crucial moment of the Battle of Waterloo that the then First Regiment of Foot Guards defeated the Grenadiers of Napoleon's Imperial Guard. As a result the Regiment was titled 'The First or Grenadier Regiment of Foot Guards' and awarded the privilege of wearing the Bearskin.

The Colonel's Fund Grenadier Guards has been established to support Grenadiers who were wounded in Afghanistan (more than 80) and the families of the 15 Guardsmen who have been Killed in Action.

It's a great cause and I hope that you will be able to support it. It's a long way to bike but not as far as Belmont or Modder River!

Hello Justin,
A very worthy cause, are you taking the most direct route, or, will you be taking in some other Guards related sites too?
I seem to remember the 2nd Grenadiers fought a particular, really rather vicous, night battle in the streets of Landrecies in August 1914 with the bayonet?
