Served in the Shropshire Light Infantry, 2nd Battalion in WW1 but was awarded the Kings South Africa Medal, he enlisted in Sunderland, (then Co Durham,) way back in 1990,i have his South African Service Record, but no clue to his WW1 record?. He was killed 15/05/1915.
I have tried to search this site for a James Killeen, but no name search is found, any clues any one!.

He is remembered on a WW1 War Memorial, hence my interest.

Regard
Jim

Good evening,
When you say you have his SA service record, do you mean his service papers from WO97 at Kew, or are you refering to something else?
Where a soldier has been tranfered to the reserve and then rejoined for the Great War you would normally see this in the service papers.
If there are no service papers in existance then you can take a look at his medal roll entries, in the case of WW1, his medal index card is the place to start.

Welcome to the Forum
I have done a quick search on Find My Past and Ancestry and James is under WW1 casualties as you state.
His MIC card is on Ancestry with the following info:
James Killeen 7169 Shropshire L.I.
He was awarded the WW1 trio which included the 1915 Star
His date of entry was 8-4-15 and as you know the theatre of war was France.
It states on his card under remarks Died of wounds 15-5-15
R.I.P.

There is a J.Killeen on the Ancestry Military Campaign Medal and Award Rolls, 1793-1949
His number is 3308 serving with the 2nd Batt. Shropshire L.I.
The rolls show awards for the QSA with the clasps Paardeberg Dreifontein Johannesberg and Cape Colony
The KSA rolls confirm the two clasps.

Dear Paul/Frank.

Many Thanks for you prompt reply, to confuse matters his service record on the Statement of service shows a different Serial number 3208, he was born 1873 in India (in fact there are 2 J Killeen's born that year in 1873, Puttegurgh and Futtegurgh both to the 85th Foot which as you know was the Shropshire Light Infantry.)

Any reason why he does not show up on your Excellent site, his service papers do not show any WW1 service so the Medal Card is what i have used. These could have been one of the Burnt records.

Many thanks for your replies.

Jampas,

The site is getting there with the list of participants but is only about 35% there. Most Imperial troops are not yet listed. It is definitely work in progress though.
