The 7th Contingent was a strong battalion of mounted infantry which formed part of the 1st Commonwealth Horse.

The 7th Contingent was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel J Sanderson-Lyster, formerly of the 71st Highland Light Infantry. They arrived in time to take part in the closing scenes in the Western Transvaal.
