Trooper George VIAL, of the Seventh Contingent, was entertained at a social by the Owaka Rifle Volunteers on Friday evening, and presented with a gold medal inscribed: "Presented by the Owaka Rifle Volunteers to Trooper G. Vial on his return from the S.A. War, 4/6/02 [sic]". On the opposite side is the monogram G.V.  Trooper Vial was in the Bothasberg affair.
