The residents of Littlehampton have purchased a gold medal for presentation to the hero of Mafeking. It bears this inscriptions: —"Presented to Major-General Baden-Powell by the residents of Littlehampton, South Australia, in admiration of his gallant defence of Mafeking, 1899-1900". In letters on the bars, of which there are three, are the words: — "Baden-Powell, Mafeking, May 18, 1900". On the reverse side of the medal are representations of a side of bacon, a cask of beer, a cheese, some pats of butter, and a pile of bricks, these representing the industries of the little hills town. The indispensable red, white and blue colours are associated with the precious metal. Mr A.L. Brunkhorst manufactured the medal, which will be on view at his establishment in Rundle Street for a few days, and will then be dispatched to the heroic officer.
