Gunner BRANFORD, of the Powerful, was in Goole on Saturday night. His experience in Ladysmith does not seem to have had an injurious effect upon him, or the rejoicings in London worked wonders with him.

BRANFORD is a modest man. To a reporter he respectfully declined to say anything of what he had gone through in the siege. BRANFORD is no braggart, he does not believe in talking about himself. This cannot be said of every Jack Tar.

The penny subscription, opened with a view to recognising the services rendered by one of the crew of H.M.S. Powerful, named BRANFORD, who is a Gooleite, has been liberally responded to, the amount collected reaching £13.

The presentation, which was made last night, took the form of a gold chain, with pendant, suitably inscribed, and a gold ring. It is plain that Goole is not backward in recognising the services of one of its townsmen, particularly if those services were given for the defence of the country.
