Presentation to be made by Barnsley Swimming Club: "It was intended by the club to present gold medals".

"Ascough, he added, had shown great bravery in attempting to save a drowning comrade".

SWIMMING.

BARNSLEY SWIMMING CLUB.

A monthly competition meeting of the above club drew a large company to the Corporation Baths, York Street, last night. Mr J.G. Channell, presiding, said it was intended by the club to present gold medals to Lance-Corporal WOOD and Private ASCOUGH, members of the club, who had been in South Africa as volunteers, and had returned home safe and sound. ASCOUGH, he added, had shown great bravery in attempting to save a drowning comrade.
