Wood | C | | Lieutenant Colonel | Cyril Wood was born Littleton, Middlesex and passed the Royal Military College in 1871. He entered the 73rd Regiment as Sub Lieutenant in July 1872 and transferred to the 56th Regiment in 1873. He was promoted Captain, 1st Battalion of the Essex Regiment in 1882 and Major 2nd Battalion in 1886. He was advanced to Lieutenant Colonel on 23 February 1900 and commanded the 1st Battalion between 1900 and 1904. (CB for services in South Africa, mentioned in despatched by Lord Roberts on 10 April 1901 for meritorious service). Previously served in Ceylon, India, Egypt and Malta variously from 1872 to 1887. He retired from his command in February 1904.
