Reynard | Joseph James | | Trooper | BSACM Rhodesia 1896 (1) Mashonaland 1897. 1897: Trumpeter Umtali Vol. Cor. Joseph James Reynard served during the Great War with the British South Africa Police (Southern Rhodesia Column) from October 1915 to January 1917, and also with the East African Transport Corps. Originally sold with a bronze medal commemorating the 40th anniversary of the occupation of Matabeleland ** Served in the Rhodesia 1896 campaign as a Trooper in the Umtali Volunteer Corps and in the Mashonaland 1897 campaign as a Trumpeter in the Umtali Volunteers. The B. S. A. Co. Medal as issued to the recipient is original and correct but has been issued in error in place of the B. S. A. Co. Medal, reverse Rhodesia 1896 (1) Mashonaland 1897 to which he would have been entitled. It is also possible that he was also issued with a medal for the 1896 operations. During the Great War Reynard served with the British South African Police (Southern Rhodesia Column) from October 1915 to January 1917, and also with the East African Transport Corps. BSACM Mashonaland 1897 (Trumpr. J. Reynard, Umtali Vols. ); 1914-15 Star (Lieut. J. J. Reynard); British War and Victory Medals (Capt.). DNW December 1991 (part of family lot). DNW March 2002 £400.
