Ramsay | Thomas Burnett | | Major | He died of dysentery at Elandsfontein, December 20th, 1901. He was the only son of Colonel William Burnett Ramsay, Rifle Brigade, of Banchory Lodge, Banchory, a grandson of the first baronet of Balmain. Major Ramsay was born in March 1862, and educated at Haileybury College. He entered the 5th Lancers in August 1884, was transferred to the Rifle Brigade the following October promoted Captain November 1892, and Major October 1901. Major Ramsay served with the Burmese Expedition, 1886-88, receiving the medal with clasp. He was adjutant of his battalion March 1872 to December 1894, and adjutant of the 5th battalion April 1897 to April 1901, when he proceeded to South Africa and was appointed to the Mounted Infantry.
