ABO (Sersj. J.C. Welken)

Possibly re-suspendered (loose).

Johannes Wilkin (medal impressed Welken due to not so legible handwriting on Vorm “B”) served in the ZAR State Artillery from 20 Feb 1896 and saw action at the majority of the major engagements in Natal and Transvaal (including Dundee, Ladysmith and Spion Kop) until he was wounded and taken prisoner at Lancaster Hill. He mentions service with a “Fransen kanon”, i.e. one of the 155 mm Creusot “Long Tom” artillery pieces.
