I was very suprised when this popped up when I did a search for Gideon Petrus Johannes Jurie Viljoen and this was the result. It happens to be my great grandfather. My father currently has the medal and I attached a photo of it.

You do know that his Vorm B - the form he completed when he applied for his medal - is available? This will tell you, if you don't already know, where and when he fought, with whom and under whose command.

Dewald Nel, a researcher, has scanned all of these in the Archives and, for a negligible fee, can email you a copy. Normally well worth reading.

Of course, if you are way ahead of me and have already gone that route then please ignore the post.
