Thank you - the certificate confirms service with the Lichtenburg Commando (part of the 1st Mounted Brigade) in German South West Africa. Van Rensburg would have been entitled to a WWI trio of medals as well. His service card (not digitised) would be available from the SANDF Archives in Irene. Having only seen service in GSWA there is no personnel file.

Ask Dewald to draw this for you as well - he might not be aware of WWI service unless you inform him.

Terloops... your relatives medal group would look like the one attached - coincidentally, this man (Venter) also served with the Lichtenburg Commando in WWI.

Dewald came back to me. My Grandfather did fight at Mafekeng, Two Rivers and Magersfontein, was captured and sent to Bermuda (Burt Island). He was released 6 months after the peace accord.

Great result BUT, did you ask him to check for a WWI card?

Yes I did. He did do duty in German West Africa. Lichtenburg regiment. Nothing else really available unless someone in this forum can guide me further.

That's about all there will be on him. So his medals, if he claimed them, would be exactly like those in the photo I posted
