This is in all probability my great grandfather Petrus Rasmus Janse van Rensburg. How can I find out more about his involvement is the war, where he served and so forth? The medals were given to my cousin as he is the eldest and I suspect got lost over the years. I would love to know what medals he received as no one can tell me except that he had "many medals". His brother, Petrus Johannes, died at Modderrivier.

Welcome to the forum!
You may be able to find his name here
www.angloboerwar.com/name-search

Two databases you can search for your Boer ancestors are:
www.wmbr.org.za/view.asp?pg=research&pgs...tabases&head1=Search
and
www2.lib.uct.ac.za/mss/bccd/
The latter will tell you which concentration camps teh family were in; it help greatly if you know their farm name or nearest town.
For your great-great-grandfather's service record, I suggest contact Dewald Nel, email [email protected]
Dewald is a professional researcher, so charges a small fee. I suggest ask him to send you his Vorm B (application for the Anglo-Boere Oorlogsmedalje) as well as any other medal applications such as De Trouwe Dienst - if he was an officer - or the Lint Voor Wonding.
If he had "many medals" it is likely he served in other campaigns, such as in 1906 or 1914-1918. Some of the members of this forum have those medal rolls and may be able to help.
The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.

He did in fact serve in the 1914 rebellion and I am unsure if he was supporting or suppressing it. I have his release from service certificate he did 226 days service. Have no idea at this time what he did then.

Can you post the release certificate? It should indicate rank, regiment etc. Release was normally for officers. Discharge or demobilised for non-coms and privates
