Copies of his application papers show that Nicholas Johannes Soloman Snyman Attested March 1900 until the 6th June 1902. He fought with the Standerton Kommando. He fought at Kalkeuro OVS and Boshoek Transvaal. There is also a bronze shooting prize 45mm diameter. OBV. Rifleman kneeling. Rev 1927 P.T. Skild N. Snyman 78 Punte. Mint in its case of issue.

Nicolaas Johannes Salomon Basson Snyman was born on 2nd May 1884 in Transvaal, South Africa.

He had barely turned 15 years old when the British Army invaded, he was still 15 when he first signed up with the local Standerton Kommando around March 1900 who he served with until 6th June 1902, when the Boers finally laid down their arms.

The battles he took part in the during the war are noted on his records as Kalkkrans in Orange Free State and “Boschock” in Transvaal.

Burger Snyman appears to have evaded capture throughout the war, the Battle of Kalkkrans was fought in February 1902 where General Hendrik Alberts and the other Boer Republic forces were routed by the British lines, forcing them to retreat with General Christiaan de Wet into Drakensberg.

He died aged 77 on 12th January 1962 in Standerton, Transvaal, his profession was a “Rustende Boer” in English a Boer Farmer.
