From the next City Coins auction, November 2020

ABO (Sjt. M.W.D. Pretorius)

According to the ZAR State Artillery Muster Roll, Marthinus W.D. Pretorius joined on 2 September 1893 and took his discharge on 17 August 1896.

He served in the Standerton Commando for the duration of the Boer War.

On his Vorm “B” medal application he stated his rank as it probably was when he left the Artillery, viz. “Wachtmeester”, i.e. Sergeant, Field Telegraphy.

He specifically noted Bankkop as one of the actions at which he was a participant.
