Hello,
Is there anymore info with regards to HS Kotze? Like age? I suspect this might be a great x2 grandfather of mine.

Anneke

The only chap who "fits" is this one. Does anything ring any bells? Born about 1881. Also note the name is Kotzee but variations of the spelling are common.

Regards

Rory

That's my oupa Schalk! Thank you so much Rory. I never knew he was also a POW. I know I'm asking a lot, but is there any info perhaps of where he was sent off to? We always knew about my 2xgreat-grandpa on the Brits side was send to India (he brought my 2xgreat-grandma the most beautiful bone and ivory choker as a souvie). But that's as far as it goes.

Hi Anneke

I never said anything about him being a POW. A lot of the Boer fighters made it to the end of the war - May 1902 - without being caught.

Each man that claimed his medal (from 1921 onwards) had to complete a Vorm B - these are in the SANDF Archives in Pretoria. A researcher, Dewald Nel, has made copies of all of them, your GGGF's will be among those - it reveals interesting details of where he fought, under whose command etc.

I suggest you e-mail him at [email protected] and, for a small fee, he will send you this form.

Regards

Rory
