ABO (Asst-Veldkornet J.N.R. Joubert). City Coins November 2009.

The rank Johannes Joubert entered on his application form was Secretary/Adjudant of the Steenkoolspruit Ward, Middelburg Commando. The official ruling by the Dept, of Defence was that Secretary was equivalent to Assistant Fieldcornet.

His initial service was in Natal (Colenso, Spionkop, etc) and he was severely wounded and taken PoW at Louwsfontein, Transvaal, 31 July 1901. He was sent to Shahjahanpur Camp in India and only returned home on 30 October 1902.

Although eligible, he did not apply for the Officer’s Decoration (DTD) and Wound Riband (LvW).
