Johannes Henning was in action at Colesberg, Modder River, Driefontein (Abrahamskraal), Sannaspost (Waterwerke), etc before he was wounded and taken prisoner at Rietkuil in the Kroonstad District on 13 September 1901.

He was sent to India (PoW No 23739), held at Fort Ahmednagar and only signed the Oath of Allegiance in November 1902.
