ABO (Sersj. Z.H. Hayward). City Coins April 2013

Zacharia Hayward was a Sergeant in the OFS Mounted Police and served as such up to June 1900. After the annexation of the Free State he joined the Winburg Commando under Commandant Haasbroek and was in action at Lindley, Retief s Nek, Slabbert’s Nek, Senekal, etc. until he was taken PoW (No 23722) on 18 September 1901 and sent to India.
