Brigadier- General B.G.L ('Barney' Enslin) Born 6 June 1879 - Died 21 September 1955
Served in the Anglo-Boer War as a Lieutenant with the Scouts commanded by Captain Daniel Theron (Therons Verkenners Korps). He was seriously wounded at the Jagersfontein Road Action (lung and shoulder) captured and sent to Bermuda in 1901. He has a typed addendum of 36 separate actions to compliment his Boer War Medal Applications (its attached)
Entered the civil service of the Transvaal Colony later the Union Department of Agriculture. In the South Africa Campaign in World War One he formed and commanded Enslin's horse 1915; commanded the Second Mounted Brigade in East Africa 1917. Chief Defence Liaison Officer in the Transvaal in the Second World War." Extracted from Smut's Papers Volume 4 , November 1918-August 1919
He was awarded the DSO 1st February 1917, while his own son: Captain Barney Godfrey Smuts Enslin S.A.A.F was shot down and killed in action in Europe on 23 January 1945
