Hello. I can purchase artillerist ABO issued to JH Borstlap for R8500, Initials should be JG. Only 5 of these surname so it must be a mistake at issue. Do you guys for see a problem in future to resell?

Theo, there were in fact only three ABO’s awarded to men with the name Borstlap. One disqualifies as a candidate for your medal because he was a Korporaal. The other two were Artillerists Gerhardus Petrus (OVS) and Jan Gabriel (ZAR). This is not the only ABO medal with a wrong initial and I don’t think that you would have much problem convincing a prospective buyer that yours was awarded to Jan Gabriel. I would suggest that you contact Dewald Nel (dewald@nelantiques.co.za) and ask for a copy of the ABO application. (he charges a small fee for his troubles, well worth it)

I know Dewald well, he is just over worked at the moment. Thank you for confirming my thoughts. The rank is very scarce as we all know, so it is well worth it. And in this case the rare surname helps a lot
