ABO (Burger Abr. Barnhoorn). City Coins August 2010.

Abraham Bamhoom, a member of the Hollander Corps, died in Holland on 2 March 1902. He was posthumously awarded an ABO medal in July 1937 after his son, Mr C.M. Bamhoom, approached the South African Envoy in Holland. No Vorm “B” was submitted, but the issue of the medal was approved directly on the copy of the English translation of the letter of application.

However, it turned out that the medal was incorrectly named to Burger C.M. Barnhoorn (the son).

In August 1954 this medal was returned to DHQ in South Africa for official alteration. The initials C.M. were neatly erased and replaced with Abr. The corrected medal was sent back to the SA Charge d’Affaires in Holland, who, during a small ceremony at which the press was present, returned it to the son.
