QSA with Relief of Ladysmith & Transvaal clasps to: 2579.PTE.J.SIMMONS.2.R.SCOTS.FUS

The recipient was taken prisoner of war at Colenso 15-12-1899 and was released at Waterval on 6 June 1900. He served with the 2nd Royal Scots Fusiliers & went on to die of wounds at Johannesburg 10-11-1900. WO 100/180 p. 67

He is commemorated on the memorial in St Giles cathedral Edinburgh and on RSF memorial in Burns Stature Square, Ayr, Strathclyde, Scotland.
The memorial on Burns Statue Square commemorates the soldiers of the Royal Scots Fusiliers who gave their lives in the First Boer War, Sudan 1884-1885, Burma 1885, Tyrah 1897 and in the South-African War (2nd Boer War).
