Dear Forummers,
can anyone provide details on Louis Kenny 38th Btty RFA? I knew him as a boy, and had tea with "Captain Kenny" on several notable occasions. Today I cam across his handwritten memoir (about 15 photocopied pages) which is moderately interesting but it was written in the 1960s so it lacks immediacy.
I thought I should give it to the NAM, but would like to include some details of him and his service for them.
Happy to scan and send to anyone who is interested.
Many thanks!
Rob

My RA CD (WO100/140) for the 38th Battery RFA shows an "16021 Bdr,. Kenny, L" entitled to clasp "Cape Colony" and marginal note "invalided England 11/2/00". No entry in Palmer.
Is that your man?
Regards
IL.

Born October 1880 London.
Louis Alfred Kenny
Father James Kenny
Canada seems to feature alot in his travels. If I have the right chap? Went to Halifax Nova Scotia aged 8 with his family. Not sure how long they stayed? I did find him again visiting in 1922 aged 42 as a sugar planter.

He married in 1907 aged 26 to Bertha Christina Julia Gooders. He was still a serving soldier after the ABW and was based at Bulford camp as per his marriage certificate.

WW1 served in the 44th Btty Royal Field Artillery.
1914 Sergeant
1915 Second Lieutenant
1915 to 1916 Temp Lieutenant
1916 onwards Acting Captain.

1939 August aged 58 he left Southampton for Capetown on the Wagoni. His profession was a Director.

Thanks, that's definitely him, and I recall his middle name was Alfred. I knew him in South Africa when he was 90.
I asked him what it was like to shell the koppies at Magersfontein? He said: "it was a pleasure!" Then he said "But it was right there that I got a nasty dose of enteric fever." I think that's what invalided him home.
thanks again, that's all I need.
