Dear all

I am doing a bit of research into the battle of Colenso, 15 Dec 1899. Does anyone know of source/s referring to a ceasefire the day after the battle ?

All the best

Derek

I had a quick look in my battered copy of "Extract from digest of Service, 2nd Bn., PWO West Yorkshires" and it tells us that -
"December 16th. - Armistice for 24 hours to bury dead. Our casualties 2nd Lt. Ross, wounded by a fragment of shell in leg".
Vol.II of the Times History (page 456) says that General Buller asked for an armistice Dec.16 and Botha consented - to conclude at midnight.
Regards
IL.
