Hello folks,
My name is Dan, I'm new to the forum here so I'll start with a quick hello!
I'm intersted in militaria and military history and also tracing my family tree. I've got a query that I'm hoping for some guidance on please.
I have had a quick glance through the posts already so hope I'm not repeating questions here.
I have an ancestor Thomas Bond, I have struggled to find any info on this guy. I recently stumbled upon WW1 records which show a Thomas Bond, RAMC, number 335662. On his records show militia service in the 5th Royal Fusiliers, number 2697, discharged in 1906 after 6 years service. Then searching the qsa records I find the the same chap entitled to qsa with cc, ofs, 1901 and 1902 clasps.
My questions to the collective are, does anyone have any further info about this chap or where can I find it? I need to try to confirm a link to my family using known addresses and family names etc, I am really hoping to prove this link as it will be first ancestor found in this war.
Many thanks
Dan.

Dan,

I had a quick look into this but didn't find anything. What papers do you have for T Bond in the RAMC?

David

Hi David,
Thanks for the reply. My apologies it was the RASC, not RAMC. The records I have are all from ancestry. Hope that may lead somewhere. I'm trying to find out basically if he is my ancestor via any recruitment paperwork and if he is if he did serve in S.A.
Thanks,
Dan.

Hello Dan

Papers for his service in the Royal Fusiliers are on FindmyPast in the British Army Service Records section, Record Series WO96 militia.

Hi Meurig,
Cheers for that. Is that bit available to pay as you go or is that subscription? I'll have a rummage anyway. Cheers. If it does turn out to be my guy I'll start looking for "representative" medals for him.
Dan.
