I am currently doing research on a Watch maker and his family of Market Harborough and found that one of the family members "Frederick w Allen" served a one year tour in the Anglo Boar War. Details are as follows.

Date. 22.01.1900
Service no.-6728
Name. Frederick William Allen
Age. 25 & 8 months.
Height. 5 feet 9 in.
Weight. 148 lbs.
Religious denominations. Weslyan.
Corps. 1st v. 13th Leicestershire reg. I think its a V on the record for Volunteer??.
Service. Leic regt depo. Prospect Private 22.01.1900 / transferred 17.02.1900 / depo transferred 30.04.1900 / Discharched or return from South Africa 30.05.1901 .
Home. 28.01.1900 to 16.02.1900
S Africa. 17.02.1900 to 24.05.1901.
Home. 25.05.1901 to 30.05.1901.
Campaigns. S Africa 1900/1 Clasps Transvaal and Laings Nek.
Wounds. nil.

I came accross some fresh information but I am not sure if it relates to this man because the name was common. as follows.- Frederick William Allen No. 15396 Trooper, 75th Company, 18th Battalion.
