My great great grandfather received the DCM in South Africa in 1901 whilst serving with the East Yorkshire Regt. I cannot find if there was a citation describing why he received the award. He was mentioned in the London Gazette Tuesday Sept 10 1901. Is there any way I can find further information.

Wing,

This is a perennial problem as many Boer War DCMs were not linked to specific acts for which there is a published citation. This does not mean the search is not going to have some success. There are some recommendation buried in the National Archives papers linked to mentions in despatches and another possible source is the regimental records.

It is possible (probable?) that being a sergeant during the war that there is no citation for him.
