Hello all,
I'm not sure how to use this site. For a long time I have been looking for my grandfather. He was said to have fought in Africa but was back in England in 1901 so I don't know if he actually fought in the last Boer war. He lived in Birmingham, Warwickshire and assuming that is where he joined up, probably soon after 1881 as a 16yr old. When he returned to England he worked in a gun shop near St.Chad's Cathedral.
I have found two possible names, but where do I go to check them out?

Hope someone can help me.

Hello Hilary and welcome to the forum.

There is no one on the medal roll called Thomas Kane but there are 19 T Kanes. We can list the men and their regiments if that would help?

We can also look at the service papers to see if there are entries for T Kane. For matches, you could either view on line (at cost) or visit the National Archives (supposing you are in the UK) or pay a researcher to do the work for you.

Kind regards
David
