Hello,

Looking for info and on how to find details of service record for William James Wickens. Wickens is sometimes spelt Wickins. William born in England, served in the Boer War, and sometime after out of the service immigrated to Canada. Are there any on line sources for Boer war Service records? As I am in Canada not able to go to the Archives to research.
I have found a list on this website for a J Wickens ---3456 Private with the Queens Royual West Surrey Regiment---which may match as I believe he was born in that area. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hello,
Can you tell us when and where he was born and why you believe he served in the Boer War?
That is not a very common name, there are a number of possibles on line, however, you will still need to provide a little more information.

Hello Elaine
And a warm welcome to the forum.
As Frank says if you could supply a few more details we may be able to help.
A quick search on Find My Past shows a possible 8 William Wickens from that timescale.

Hello Elaine.....

I have checked the Canadian Archives for WW1 and can find several W. Wickens (Wickins) but none with any Boer War service....

Thank you all for your replies. I am actually helping a friend with this. William is her grandfather. She has spoke to her father again about him. She has a picture of him horseback, was a rifleman. Her father recalls him talking about the Zulus, of it being the second Boer War. Willam was born in England, probalby Surrey. about 1881 although it could be 2 or 3 years either side of that. His fathers name ws Alfred. He married in Sept. 1909 in England and must have left for Canada right after that as he and his family are on the 1911 and 1916 census there.
Once again thank you and I hope this information is of help.
