My Grandfather Arthur George Savage was a member of the Army Ordnance Corps and his army service records show he was tried by General Court Martial at Bloemfontein on 1st August 1902 and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude.

The records give no information on the offence he committed or the proceedings of the court martial. Can anyone tell me where I may be able to locate this information ?

Many thanks

Hello Neil
I would think that, if you have his service papers and it does not say on the "Statement of the Services of" sheet what the offence actually was, then you are never going to find that particular information.
The AOC did have a museum, but, this has now closed, you could try the archive of the RLC museum at Princess Royal Barracks, Blackdown Rd, Deepcut, Camberley, GU16 6RW, but this would be a long shot and you would need to write to them first and you would need to make an appointment if you wanted to visit in the event of them finding something.
Sorry, can't think of anything else really!
Regards Frank
