I have an old photo that was in my great grandmother's box of mementoes. It's badly faded, appears to be pre-Victorian infantry (single-breasted, stand collar, white belt, forage cap with central badge (unreadable), bright not black buttons, dark trousers. One of my ggm's brothers was Charles Edwin Reynolds born 1870. I'm looking for WO 126/144, his attestation page. Are there online images or transcriptions available? He would have served any time between 1888 and 1901, he left at his own request 10 Mar 1901 (WO127). He was buried June 1901 in Waltham Forest cemetery.

Hello,

According to Thorneycroft "Unbuttoned" by Robin Droogleever he was a Corporal, served in A Company from 20/10/99 to 10/3/01 and earned the QSA with 7 clasps and was from Pietermaritzburg, Natal.

If you have a subscription then look up Epsom College Register, p63.

Regards,
Shaun

Thank you, Shaun,

I've seen these on Ancestry, but TY for pulling out the start of service, I'd missed that. When you say Epsom College Register, p63, is that at Ancestry? Is there anyway to see WO 126/144 without visiting London or waiting a month for the mail? BTW I found his death certificate, attached. End of May, TB. If it's he, he left SA in March, died in May. Military use of Edward for Edwin is still a problem.

Judy

Shaun, I just re-read your post. It's a book! What you provided from the book is really valuable. Especially that he was from South Africa. Eliminates him as a candidate. Thank you much.

Hi Judy,

I found a reference to the Epsom College Register but unfortunately I don't have a paid subscription for "FindmyPast.co.uk".

Hopefully someone on this Forum can help us out.

David Biggins, who owns this site, may be able to help you out with his Attestation Papers; that may give you a bit more information about his height, weight, Next of Kin etc.

I think you have nailed most of the key information about him; he would have seen some heavy fighting during the time he was with the TMI.

Good luck with the rest of your research.

Regards,
Shaun

Yes, I think I can safely eliminate this Charles Reynolds, as he was a South African national. Now I'll move on to his brother, William, and see if I can pick up his trail. Thank you for the info, really good to have folks who "know stuff."
