Hi there
I am hoping that someone out there can help me in finding my distant relative Lance Corporal Robert William Parker whom was in the 2nd Lincolnshire Regiment according to the 1901 census. He hails from Ropsley and was born between Oct & Dec1880.
I have noted that a Lance Corporal Parker was taken prisoner by the Boers in the above battle, could this be him?
He survived the war and by the 1911 census had married Louie Harniess in Glanford Brigg in 1907.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Welcome to the Forum. Having a quick look at the Palmer (no relative) casualty roll, I see that the "L/Cpl Palmer of the Lincs, Regt" you mention had a Regimental number 5255. Looking on the medal roll for the Lincs., the initial of "5255 L/Cpl. Palmer" was "R". He was entitled to clasps Cape Colony, Paardeburg and Johannesburg on his QSA medal.
At this point, I don't know if this ties in with your distant relative. However, the odds are shortening.

Welcome to the forum.
Some information for you, reference your distant relative.
His attestation paper confirms you have the right Parker.
He served in South Africa twice and India. After his capture he returned home for a while and lived with his uncle Benjamin at number 10 High Street as per the 1901 census.
