Hi. This is a real 'shot in the dark'. My family origianally came from the villages of Sennen and St Just near Lands End. My great uncle Samuel (Sammy) Jackson was a farmer, living at Sunnyside near Sennen school (now a B&B I believe). On the wall in his lounge was a faded photo of a man, probably early twenties mounted on a horse and wearing on his head the very recognisable wide brimmed or slouch hat turned up on his left - our right, side. I only knew him as a child in the 1950s (I am 71) and never asked him who he was. Logically another Jackson - there are still amy in that area who share that surname. Has anybody any ideas?

Foxtrot47,

There are some 70 men with the surname Jackson in the IY records.

Do you have any other genealogical records of the family to narrow the search?

If you have a subscription to Ancestry, you can search through these IY Jacksons as they list the parish in which the man was born.

I couldn't find your soldier, but I did come across a court case in 1937, where a Samuel Stephen Jackson, a farmer and butcher of Tower Farm, Sennen, had had £42 stolen from him.
