Following up after Dave F's research, it appears that the "Willmot" of B Sqn., Natal Carbineers in djb's upload is "385 Tpr. W.J.H. Wilmot" of that regiment. Refer to WO100/260. Which is considerably at odds with your GF's stated initials. The Wilmot of the NC later transferred to the Volunteer Cavalry Regiment in October of 1900.
It is always possible that your GF did enlist with Brabant's Horse at (or even after) the end of hostilities and did not qualify for a medal.
I do apologise if I have "taken coals to Newcastle" by stating the above. However, it seemed appropriate to point out the inconsistency.
Regards
IL.

This link will take you to information about your grandfather's WW1 Officer papers held at the National Archives, Kew.
Not a certainty, but more detail of his pre ww1 service might be in there..

Thanks everyone for replying to my inquiry.

It appears that the ONLY reference to be found in my G Grandfather's Military Service pre WWI is written in those Attestation papers.

All other refs to 'MY' Willmot in official records have been debunked by your members and I am glad for that information.

It appears that he did serve with Brabant's Horse (no need for him to lie about that, as he was a good horseman) but finding corroboration has proven negative.

If I find information by other means I will return and post here.

Thanks again to everyone.

Why do I think that attestation forms for Brabant's Horse are kept at the TNA in Kew?

If I'm correct, you might be able to find more details there. If you are nowhere near Kew there are a couple of goof researchers who can check this out for you.

Thank you for the response.

When I visited Kew approx 10 years ago to access A S Willmot's WWI papers I also looked for the Boer War connection.
I was pleased that his WWI papers were not in the burnt archive but was informed that many records were destroyed and could have included some of the BW set.
I have exhausted most avenues of inquiry but will again check when I visit the NatArchives.
Having recently found this site it seemed the obvious place to start again.

Best regards
Brian
