Hi all,

I am trying to find some information on my great great grandfather. I don’t have much information but for the fact he was called T Fowler. I have a picture of his name on the memorial in Darwen, Lancashire. Looking at the census record for that area it looks like he may be called Thomas and he may have been born in 1864 or 1881.

I have attached some pictures of the memorial.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Lee

Hi Lee. We do have a poster who's interested in the names on the Darwen memorial - he's 'familyhistory.' You could try sending him a private message (I can't remember if you have to have posted a certain number of times to seend a PM.) If you can't, I'll send him one for you.

I've done a little research in Darwen Library, but haven't come across T. Fowler yet.

There is a set of service records on Find My Past for Pte 7212 Thomas Fowler who was born in Darwen. He enlisted as a volunteer in the East Lancashire Regiment (ELR) on 10/01/1900 and was discharged 10/06/1901 having completed the year he volunteered for. He was 20 years 3 months old when he enlisted making him born late 1879.

His parents were William & Sarah and lived at 70 Rose Terrace, Sarah Street, Darwen when he enlisted.

He also appears on a medal roll on Ancestry for the the Volunteer Service Company of the ELR and was entitled to the Queen's South Africa Medal with 3 clasps - Cape Colony, Orange Free State & Transvaal.

Wow… this is absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for this. I stumbled upon the memorial today having known that my grandad visited there once to see his grandads name.

This has really given me the interest in developing my family tree.

Thank you so much.
