My relative served with the Royal Welch Fusiliers. John Kenyon 2517.
His army record shows he was tried ny DCM at Clerksdorp and was awarded 56 days.
I am having trouble getting my head rounf the last bits of the writing. K.I.N8/11.
I have put a clip of the entry as an attachment, would it be possible for someone to decipher it for me, and if possible what the regulation was that he was tried for.
Thanks
Geoff W

Is it "No. 11", and the bit above the 'o' is the tail-end of a flourish from the 'N'?

It's poor writing, as it should be Klerksdorp (unless there's a Clerksdorp too).

I think it might be "56 Days F.I. No II"

56 Days Field Imprisonment No 2

Pearson’s Weekly, 5th May 1900, p.7

“Summary Punishment”, as awarded by a Field General Court-Martial, consists of “Field Imprisonment No. 1” and “Field Imprisonment No. 2”.

An offender sentenced to No. 1 may be:
1. Kept in irons, or confined by means of straps, ropes or cords.
2. When in irons or fetters, may be attached to a fixed object, such as a tree, pole, or rock, so that he must remain in a fixed position; but he must not be attached for more than two hours at a time, for more than three days out of four, or for more than twenty-one days.

When Field Imprisonment No. 2 is ordered, the offender may be put in irons, or secured by straps or ropes; but he may not be attached to any fixed object.

Either of these punishments may be ordered for a period not exceeding three months; but in the case of No. 1 a man cannot be attached to a fixed object for more than twenty-one days altogether, though the punishment might be made to extend up to three months.
