Ah, therein lies my problem! ;)

I'm a volunteer researcher for the Tigers' database, which has Private 7190 as Albert, but I'm now told that's wrong and it was Arthur. I was, as I've said, hoping for access to some "official" paperwork that has his given name on that would prove it one way or the other.

Any idea where he might have enlisted from?

:(

I don't know of any more official sources. He seems not to have been mentioned or wounded during the Boer War which means the medal rolls are the primary source.

Perhaps the genealogical route is the way forward?

I'd suggest RootsChat, but with only an initial and the surname there's nothing to go on. He might not even have been a Leicestershire man.

Think he's defeated me - well, for now, at least.

Thanks everyone
