I am looking for information on my great grandfather, David Schalk Mare, who died at the battle of Grassy Hill (Suffolk) in January 1900. He was a lieutenant in ZARP. Does anyone know where I might find records of ZARP?

JStarr09,

His did not apply for his ABO so that avenue is not available.

I would suggest contacting Rhino Research or Dewald Nel (via Contacts in the top menu) as they are based in SA and will better know what information is available.

If you do find an answer, please let us know.

Good luck!
David

Hi
Lt Mare suffered a head wound at Colesberg on 6 January 1900 and died on 8 Jan.

On another database it is mentioned that he is buried in Braamfontein Cemetery
