I am looking for information about my Great Grandfather's military career back in the 1870's to 1880's.
His name Ignatius William Charles van Wyk b. 1856 he was in his early 20's when he joined the British army in the Eastern Cape. At that time he was living in the town of George.
I have been searching for some time and came across the military company name- "Cape Mounted Riflemen" based at George on this site.
Since he lived in George it could very likely be that this is the unit he joined. According to now deceased family member his rank was captain.

I would appreciate any information you can find on Ignatius William Charles van Wyk's career in the army.

Thanks
