Last year I got my great-grandfather's (Joshua Andries Joubert) Form B. But it doesn't seem to be the right person. The date on the Form B is 18 Jan 1922. And there is an application letter for the Form B written by a Joshua Joubert on 24 Jan 1922. My great-grandfather, Josua Andries Joubert, passed away on 5 Jan 1922. So he could not have written that letter.

In a thesis written by Francois Grobler, which deals with the Carolina Commando, a Joshua Andries Joubert is found in the Red Cross's list of citizens who were part of the Carolina Commando. No Joshua Joubert is found.

My question is, was there another Joshua Joubert who fought under the Carolina Commando? Is it my great-grandfather's Form B? Maybe the dates on the form were incorrectly entered?

Looking at the ABO roll, there is only one Josua [sic] in the Carolina Commando. This is the only man called Josua Joubert on the ABO roll. There are three men called A J Joubert one of whom served in the Caroline Cdo.

Many men did not apply for their medal so could he have been one such?

Thank you for your reply. There is a Josua Andries Joubert listed in the Red Cross list of burgers who were in the Carolina Commando. The reason why he was listed in the Red Cross list may mean that he was a refugee and did not fight in the war?
