Another option if you are in the UK is to visit the National Archives in London where you can access the records for free.

Findmypast have 4 pages of service papers for your man from 1900-1912. These will be the same as the papers you have referenced in Fold3. I can copy and email them to you. Show service in India for 9 years or so. Pete

I've attached a pic of the back of the photo. Not an obvious name there but at the bottom in very small print it says 'Bernh Wachtl Vienne' which I understand refers to Bernhardt Wachtl of Vienna who were well-known lithographers at end of 19th century. I've also attached a close up of the red seal at the bottom of the pic. It has motifs, not words. Not sure if this tells us anything.
