Military Funeral at Ystrad.
The funeral of Henry Samuel Jones, son of Mrs. Mary and the late William Jones, Bryngwilym, Ystrad-Rhondda, took place on Thursday, the 7th inst., at Trealaw Cemetery, the officiating minister being the Rev. J. Prichard, Llwynpia. The mourners included Mrs. Mary Jones (mother), Mr. and Mrs. Evan Jones (brother and sister-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Bryant (brother and sister-in-law), Misses Gwen, Catherine, Olwen, and Ceinwen Jones (sisters), Masters Willie, David, and Harry Jones (nephews), Mr. William Morris (uncle), Mr. and Mrs. Jellet (uncle and aunt), Mr. and Mrs. Stock, Mr. John Jones, Mrs. Sophia Davies, Misses Beatrice and Eliz. Ann Jones (cousins).

Deceased served with his fellow-soldiers in the South African War with the 41st Welsh, and was in action in the relief of Kimberley, Paaredeberg, and Driefontein. While at the latter, he was unfortunately wounded, and in due course was invalided home. Since then he has been unable to do any work, but of a very light nature, and, sadly to say, his death is attributed to the unfortunate wound he received while bravely serving his King and country. The funeral was one of the largest witnessed for many years in the neighbourhood, being carried out with full military honours by the Pentre Detachment of the 3rd V.B. Welsh, numbering 50, under the command of Colour-Sergt. George Newbury. The band was also in attendance, and played the Dead March at intervals. There were present also: - Colour-Sergt. Price, Sergeants W. Meyrick and H. Bridgman. After the service by the Rev. J. Prichard at the graveside, three volleys were fired under the command of Colour-Sergt. Geo. Newbury. The funeral arrangements were conducted by Messrs. Howell Williams and Son, Ystrad-Rhondda.
